The Cell Ontology and the International Neuroinformatics
Coordinating Facility are holding a joint workshop on the
ontological representation of neurons on April 12-13, 2011, at
the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta, with a satellite
meeting to be held April 14 to cover technical aspects of
ontology development for this domain.
).

The overall goal of this meeting is to improve the
representation of neurons in the CL from both the biological and
the ontological perspectives. The Cell Ontology is the
designated OBO Foundry ontology for the representation of cell
types including neurons, and is recognized as such by the INCF
PONS task forces. This work will support the goals of the INCF
PONS task forces by improving the ontological representation of
neurons in general, and CL ontology terms generated through the
workshop will be available for use by and incorporation in other
Neuroinformatics resources.

In addition to biomedical ontology developers and specialists in
neuroinformatics, we are in particular encouraging the
participation of experimental neuroscience researchers, so that
the ontological representation of neurons to be developed will
be as accurate as possible.
